St. Symphorosa's Preschool Program

Full Day    Half Day    Five Days a Week

We offer a full day academic program with a half day option that gives our students the opportunity to explore all of the subject areas.  Our play-based preschool curriculum is geared towards pre-academics, social and emotional learning, and instilling a sense of community and belonging.  

Preschool's daily schedule involves whole-group instruction, circle time, cross-curricular centers, snack time, gross-motor play time, fine motor skills, lunch and nap time.Our curriculum aligned with the Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards and includes Religion, Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Art, Spanish, Gym, Music, and Computers. It also provides students with fine and gross motor practice, literacy awareness, as well as social and emotional development. Additionally, lunch and nap is offered for full day students.

Mathematics 
The preschool students learn about mathematics by using

math in real-life experiences, also. The curriculum includes:


● counting 0 - 20+                       

● number recognition 0 - 20
● patterning
● sorting
● shape recognition
● building shapes

● ordinal numbers 1st, 2nd, 3rd


Language Arts

The preschool students learn about reading in a fun and engaging way with Zoo-Phonics.   The focus is the enjoyment of literature                  and the pre-reading skills of recognition of letters and their sounds.

Science & Social Studies
Scholastic’s My Big World series supports Illinois' Early Learning and Development Standards

as children learn and discuss seasonal topics including: the weather, wildlife,

the environment and the world around us. 


​REQUIREMENTS

Children must be 3 or 4 years old by September 1 of the year they are to enter school.


​All must be potty trained and self-sufficient (able to manage snaps, buttons and zippers on their own).
